BIO

I moved to Ottawa in 2002 to attend journalism school at Carleton University.

I was formally introduced to photojournalism while working at Centretown News, which was a credit in the journalism program as well as a biweekly newspaper serving Ottawa’s downtown community.

My first regular freelance assignments came from the Ottawa Citizen newspaper and Ottawa Magazine. Sad to note how the former has since cut its freelance budget while the latter has been shuttered.

From community to municipal to provincial, national and international news coverage, the jump from one to the next while working in a political hub like Ottawa felt both necessary and inevitable.

After 20 years in the news industry I’ve had the privilege of working with clients such as Postmedia, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, Maclean’s, The Walrus, The Logic, The Canadian Press, Vice, The Times, Reuters and Bloomberg.

Throughout my career I’ve remained attached to Carleton University as a photojournalism instructor.

My interest in street photography is longstanding and has probably always flavoured my editorial pictures to some degree, although lately I find myself exploring this genre more strongly, hence the new Street category on the menu.

While this space shows some curated selections of my work, I do showcase a less filtered and perhaps more personal stream of ideas on my Instagram, which is linked below.

Reach me by email any time for news assignments, or just connect with me on socials to get a sense of what I’m up to.

Thanks for visiting!
